My husband and I had just put our last child in college and we were ready to start seeing the world. Our first stop was going to be UK. We were so excited. I had some distant relatives that lived there and I had always had a fascination with the country. I always wanted to visit it, but could not afford it with three kids at home. It was finally time for us to start enjoying things. I wanted to stay some place nice. I had looked online and saw Lamb at Hindon and fell in love with it. I really wanted to stay there. It was gorgeous and old and it had so much charm. I could not wait for our vacation. I had to book our room, and our flights. I finally did that and could not wait to go. Next I went shopping and bought some new clothes to wear.
A Bit of Empire in Seoul

One of my fave places to drink and socialize is at the Broughtons Club in Seoul. Its located in the basement of the British embassy Seoul, Korea. You can tell the British embassy is above as all the placemats have Union Jacks on them. In the bottom of this rather boring and nondescript building is what can only be described as a little piece of home. They have transformed an area in the basement into a a pretty good rendition of what a British pub looks like.Proper oak wood bar stools, plenty of colorful beer mats featuring beers you have never heard of and beer taps galore. The only thing missing is the group of 70 year old men sitting in the corner smoking their holborn (have to outside to smaoke). Apart from the decor there are ‘proper’ sausage rolls and meat pies available but even better they have real British beer. I’m not talking about the stuff you can buy in any supermarket, I’m talking about Bishop’s Finger and Hobgoblin real ale, both strong enough to put most beers to shame.But the best part is the friends you meet and make. It seems that the tradition of really ‘enjoying’ your pint is giving way to ‘lets go get drunk’ but this is the place if you want to do the former. It is great being in one of the world’s most dynamic cities but sometimes you yearn for that little piece of home.

I’m actually on diet yet my biggest craving is ice cream and quite a lot too. I can always buy the one with fewer calories, less sugar and the one suited for my weight loss regime but they are mostly expensive. I wonder why food that is so much less is actually cost more. Now, I’m thinking of getting my own best ice cream maker to make my own customized ice cream.
Maybe it will cost more to buy the machine but if you are thinking of ice cream as a regular desert than it would be a perfect buy. I’m considering buying the one with a built in freezer because I really don’t want to spend a lot of time making ice cream.
What is the type of ice cream that I want to make? Well, it is more to the alternative of ice cream actually. I could try yogurt, gelato or fruit sorbet. Now, I need to find the actual recipes for these.
My Chinese Phase

I love to eat. I know that we are told to eat to live rather than live to eat, but that is taking it to the extreme in my opinion. There is no reason why we shouldn’t take joy in eating, especially when there are so many tasty things to enjoy out there. I go through my phases and tend to stick to one thing at a time, whether it be Italian foods, Mexican dishes, or Indian recipes. My latest love is Chinese. I never ate it growing up but when I tried it a few years ago, I could definitely see the appeal. I have been wanting some more Chinese lately, so I am going to look up Chinese takeaway Lewisham and see which places will either deliver to me or even just be close enough to where I can go pick it up. There are so many that I hope this phase lasts long!
